Captain Marvel (1968)

A Kree Sentry unit advances toward the nuclear stockpile at The Cape missile base. Captain Mar-Vell, identifying himself by his Kree military rank, fails to override its primary directive. The android attacks, forcing Mar-Vell to engage with his Uni-Beam. He uses his jet belt to create distance, deliberately remaining within range to draw its fire away from the human soldiers stationed nearby. One of these men mishears the alien’s name, coining the title “Captain Marvel” for the figure now battling the machine. Mar-Vell channels a final, amplified blast from his weapon, shattering the Sentry’s armored plating across the launch complex.
