Perico (2018)

A tense political backdrop frames a young casino worker named Joaquin as he navigates the final days before Castro’s takeover in Havana. He holds a briefcase full of cash belonging to his gangster boss, a stash stolen by his own brother, who works for the revolution. When Joaquin learns that a young woman he admires is set to be prostituted to President Batista, he decides to flee with her and the stolen money.

They escape by car and travel across the United States, pursued by the Cuban mafia. As they move north, the pair confronts the peril of their stolen fortune and the danger of the pursuing enforcers, all while seeking safety and a new start in a country far from the island’s turmoil. The pursuit and the choice to break away drive a suspenseful journey through crime and escape.
