Planetary (1999-2009)

A General and his garrison are neutralized by the Planetary field team in a secure military facility. Their interrogation yields a cold war secret: the scientist David Paine. In 1962, his reality-altering supercomputer detonated during a desert test, catching Paine and the General's wife in its blast. The exposure mutated Paine into a monstrous entity, fought by the army for twenty-four days before his capture. Unable to decipher his work, authorities sealed him in a five-mile-deep pit, where he perished in 1983. The General adds a final, personal detail: his wife gave birth to a daughter six months after the incident. He has never met the child.
