For twenty-eight days, Jack Russell maintains the facade of a normal life in Los Angeles, complete with a loving wife and the promise of a child. On the twenty-ninth day, that life shatters. The man disappears, replaced by a primal, uncontrollable force. The Werewolf hunts, driven by an ancient curse that no amount of domestic planning can contain. His family’s safety is now contingent on the phases of the moon, their future threatened by the very blood in his veins. The city’s streets hold a new kind of predator, one that walks on two legs by daylight.

It is here, under Doug Moench’s writing, that Moon Knight first appeared, and it’s hard to say that this debut was groundbreaking or even particularly interesting, especially in contrast to the rather strong and dramatic story of Jack Russell. Here, Marc is a fairly flat and caricatured mercenary. But Moon Knight’s visual design itself, created by artist Don Perlin — with his signature cestus, Mooncopter and crescent darts — initially came across as highly striking and impressive, especially within the Bronze Age of comics.
