A new compound has been synthesized in the Griffin laboratory. Jack Griffin, a man long accustomed to being overlooked, now possesses the means to vanish completely. His obsession with this state of being has eclipsed all other concerns, including his relationship with Flora Cranley. The initial euphoria of his success is giving way to a colder, more isolated reality. He moves through the world unseen, testing the limits of his newfound condition. The only evidence of his presence is the faint displacement of air and the slow rearrangement of objects in empty rooms.
