Six months of silence from Latveria have ended. Doctor Victor Von Doom, now the planet’s Sorcerer Supreme, has seized every global broadcast frequency. His declaration is absolute: the world is now a single nation under his rule, a new United Latveria. Every government on Earth appears to comply without resistance. A scattered coalition of Earth’s heroes mobilizes against this sudden conquest, suspecting technological or mystical coercion. Their mission is to breach Latveria’s fortified borders and confront Doom directly. Meanwhile, in cities worldwide, public sentiment begins to fracture, with growing factions openly embracing the promise of a singular, ordered global authority. The airwaves carry only one voice.

On one hand, it was a good read. But honestly, North really wrote himself into a corner near the end. I think it all just resolved way too quickly. Additionally, the book didn't really have a consistent theme, or at least didn't give the feeling of having one. It was alright, but could've and should've been much better

Character assassination of Doom but I'll allow it because of hype moments and aura

Mostly great series, but with a real dud of a finale. I really enjoyed seeing where it was going month-to-month, but the last issue was disappointing, to say the least.

Did this event sputter and crawl to the finish line? Seems that way to me. The Marvel Universe moved on well before issue 9 (even in the new FF run). Ryan N wrote a decent story, so I turn to the editing team to ask "wha' happened?"

      Pretty much.

I was so interested during the whole "there is NO way to undo this. it has become a fixed, immovable part of reality", because that's a really great thing to put into a comic book to prevent futre retcons.

Where could the writers be going? What are the ramifications of this? How will this ch- oh, what's that? The very next issue immediately negated that premise? The event that could not be undone was undone? ...cool. Oh, and they did it in a way that is antithetical to who we know Dr. Doom to be, in a story that relies on our knowledge of Dr. Doom? Okay.

This is the definition of character assassination

I was willing to suspend my disbelief for a while, because it was an interesting premise. But it completely lost me when Doom went to higher beings who are more powerful than him, admitted they were more powerful than he is, and then asked for help.

Don't get me wrong, *I* know that the Vishanti and The Living Tribunal are more powerful than Dr. Doom, but if HE knew that, there's no way he'd be okay with it, and less than ZERO chance he'd humble himself before them without any resistance. He'd be scheming to take their power for himself, because he is the single most egotistical character in all of fiction.

Now, if you wanted to go the route of "Valeria's death humbled him," I can totally get behind that, but you gotta give us some time to see that change in paradigm happen. As it is, it's like a switch just flipped and suddenly Dr. Doom was a completely different person immediately.

Interesting premise, I like what they were going for, but I'm really not a fan of how they executed it.

Doom would never kidnap people of latveria, he loves latveria and cares for its citizens. He would never take their life force, and kidnap them. That is out of character even someone like doom. 😭😭😭

I'd say Waid and Claremont shit the bed too but the worst was undoubtedly Chuck Dixon.

I guess, but this is just really egregiously terrible Doom writing. Undoing years of development and this character's entire moral code just so you can have your ICE commentary is crazy lmao

Yeah I get it. I usually don't blame the writers on this considering it's always Marvel editorial who makes the terrible decisions to undo growth.

Worst? Please. Nothing could ever be worse than Waid writing Doom making a deal with demons after what happened with his mom, sacrificing his childhood friend to them (again, so what happened with his mom), and then having to give them credit for a level of power he's constantly achieved on his own anyway.

Who's Doom kidding?! (Ish 4, page 22) He always fails!!
And Doom's illeism is an increasing distraction. It makes me wonder if he's got some kind of dissociative identity disorder that's going to come into play along the way.
