On New Genesis, celebrations fill the skies while the gods revel in their splendor. Yet Orion, the adopted son of Highfather, stands apart as a simmering, battle-hungry warrior who questions why he was chosen as an intergalactic prince. He fears he does not truly belong on the world he calls home, haunted by a secret that gnaws at him.

When the Highfather reveals Orion’s true parentage—that he comes from Apokolips and is the spawn of Darkseid—the prince must confront a blight within and the looming threat Darkseid poses to New Genesis. With his place in his loved ones’ lives at stake and a monstrous lineage weighing on him, Orion faces a brutal choice: can he become a hero, or is he destined to become a monster?

Good grief, this was excellent.

It feels almost sacrilegious to say, but Ngozi executes some of the concepts better than Kirby did.

Very excited for more. I wonder if she'll do Forever People next.

Nobody has since managed to pull off New Gods with same sort of grand mythology tone as Kirby, but I think Ngozi Uzaku does the best with the material of any author since. Dialogue on New Genesis/Apokolips is exactly spot on. Weakens a little once the characters get to Earth but I can forgive that since it's a minor part of the book and it's not bad, just conventional.

This is the most compelling Lightray has ever been. Not even Kirby fully knew what to do with him, but making Orion his muse he channels into art is a perfect character choice. Very impressed. I hope they put Uzaku on a main canon New Gods book.

    Yes, on RCO. Gorgeous art. Dialogue isn't quite as lyrical as in this.

      Yeah i think its cause ram v is using a lot of text box heavy story telling and this is mostly communication between the characters

  I really hope they let her on a New Gods book in the main canon, or at least that other writers take some notes. This version of Lightray feels so much more completely realised.
