Wiccan's journey began with his struggles as a gay teenager facing bullying at school. His powers first manifested in a confrontation with his bully, unleashing an electrical attack. This incident set him on a path to becoming a superhero, eventually leading him to the Avengers Mansion where he met Iron Lad. Alongside Iron Lad, Hulkling, and Patriot, he helped form the Young Avengers, a team of young heroes stepping up to fill the gap left by the original Avengers.

Initially operating under the alias "Asgardian," Billy later adopted the name "Wiccan" to better reflect his magical prowess. His relationship with fellow team member Hulkling is central to his character, providing a personal anchor amid the chaos of superhero life. The team faced numerous challenges, including battles against Kang the Conqueror and dealing with complex familial revelations involving Hulkling's heritage.
